“The words “take away” are misleading. The greek word is “airo”. “Take away” is one meaning. The other meaning is “to lift up”. Jesus tells us the context is to consider the work of the vine dresser. The primary task of a vine dresser is to position the vine upward in order for the vine to face the sun. See the symbolism at work here. Look closely at this verse and notice the words “every branch in me“. The branch is abiding in the vine. Only branches that do not abide are removed.
Branches that are pruned are those that will produce more fruit. Symbolic of God’s SANCTIFICATION through GRACE.
