Commentary

Given the body of evidence provided in the gospels, can we honestly say that Jesus was buried on Friday and rose from the grave on Sunday?

First, the facts show that the events needed to occur before Jesus’ body was laid in the grave. These events occurred on Preparation Day according to Luke’s, Mark’s and John’s accounts.

Second, they show the progression of events that happened while Jesus’s body was in the grave. This is the period of time that Jesus called “three days and three nights in the grave”. It’s during this period of time that the women bought and prepared the spices.

Third, after the sabbath passed, the women rose early and went to the grave to anoint Jesus’s body with the spices they prepared.

Finally, the facts conclude with Jesus’ resurrection on the first day of the week.

For those who say that Jesus was crucified on Friday, please consider all the events that took place as recorded in the gospels. Wednesday allows for both the completion of each event as well as giving us three full days and three full nights in the grave.
